As much as I love the M Coupe, I think the 335i is a much better car in terms of price/value.

When I was driving it, I got 15.7l/100km fuel "economy". I suppose you could call that frugal given that I wasn't exactly babying it. There is no doubt in my mind that the next M3 will be faster and sharper in every way - and very different in character. The non-turbo 3.0 is probably your best best for performance vs. frugality - a friend has a 130i which uses 9l/100km in urban driving. Quite impressive.

Btw I'm not sure if you've seen that the facelifted 1 Series has Brake Energy Regeneration and automatically switches off the engine when you come to a stop. I've been trying to get info from the local guys whether those things will be available on the SA versions but I haven't gotten any information either way.

The question is, is this the poor man's M3 or is the M3 the stupid man's 335i?

Personally, I'd go for the 335i - more subtle styling and (of course) more eco-friendly. This motor's surprisingly frugal given its performance.
